Very often renowned dancer Dr. Sonal Mansingh comes up with her unique productions, be it Mukti, Sundari, Nayikaa, Krishna katha or even the devi katha all have been interesting and fascinating for the audiences for years. This year she celebrates her golden years on the Indian floor, her concept titled Swarnika rejoices her completion of 50 years of dancing on the Indian shores.
Padma Vibhushan awardee Sonal Mansingh’s new show When the Gods Meet celebrating the same premiered in the cultural city of Kolkatta in presence of eminent dance and political people. We followed the interesting and remarkable show to other cities of India like Guwahati and Delhi. This show is a superb idea of Mansingh mixing Indian and Greek Mythologies, and bringing alive the age old the stories from both the myths. The 90 min of this Indo- Greek show had all the elements from entertainment to education. The sound and lights used in the show to enhance its legendary tales had a distinct appeal and proved that Dr. Mansingh and her creations are different from the rest of the dance community.
The best part her new show was the Greek myths ably choreographed and danced by internationally renowned dancer choreographer Sandip Soparrkar and his super model dance partner Jesse Randhawa. Every move they both made matched the capabilities of Mansingh and her abilities, the dancing duo were the true stars of her show. It was beautiful to see the best dancing Jodi of the country come and dance on the joyous occasion of ‘Swarnika’ for Mansingh.
The Indian dancers dancing the traditional myths choreographed by Mansingh herself did their best to match the capabilities of Sandip and Jesse, but the romantic mood that the couple always create was unmatched. Mansingh made a wise choice this time round too to choose India’s best dancing Jodi on her show to celebrate her golden years. We wish her all the very best for her future and hope to see many such wonderful shows by the graceful dancer.
